Karlsborg Municipality and Karlsborg’s Tourism AB
Karlsborgs Fortress lies in center of Sweden where Göta Canal meets the lake of Vättern. Karlsborgs Fortress was built as Swedens Reserve Capital and in times of war the Swedish King, Queen and Parliament where to be relocated there together with the Swedish gold reserve and the weapon arsenal.
Bjerkne & Co’s assignment was to develop a new concept for Karlsborgs Fortress with the aim to create a tourism magnet of the site. Bjerkne & Co also created a marketing and communications plan and oversaw the implementation process.
Bjerkne & Co’s concept use the unique historic environment of Karlsborgs Fortress and mix it with top modern technology and interactivity to make the swedish history come alive in a new and exciting way.
Substantial investments were needed to make the new concept possible. Bjerkne & Co established close collaborations with a number of Swedish eductional bodies and universities that contributed largely to different parts of the process.

Claes Bjerkne has held a number of regional, national and international top assignments during the years. For almost two decades he developed and marketed Gothenburg as a destination. He built up Göteborg & Co from the beginning in 1990, and was the company’s CEO until 2009.
